Since its inception, the Department of Community Medicine, HIMS, has been the torchbearer of public health in the state of Uttarakhand.

The department has qualified and highly experienced faculty in public health, with an intake of 3 postgraduates in M.D. Community Medicine each year. Apart from this, the department also operates other units viz. MSc. Clinical Research, MSc Epidemiology and is actively involved in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates from medical and para-medical departments.

We are well equipped with a public health lab, a museum, a library and demonstration rooms and have successfully run various outreach centres and camps. Currently, our field practice area outreach centres include CHC Doiwala, RHTC Gauhri Mafi, RHC Kurkawala and  RHC Ghamandpur.

Apart from its regular academic activities, the department has actively involved its students and faculty members in the field and research-based activities. The department is committed to cater the needs of its community via engagement in all national public health programs.

We have trained frontline healthcare workers (ASHAs, ANMs) regarding maternal and child health, substance abuse, reproductive health and communicable and non-communicable diseases. The department conducts field surveys and community needs assessments from time-to-time to keep in touch with the changing face of its dynamic community of Doiwala.
